About the event
Two exhibitions by Wawi Navarroza will run concurrently in Singapore in March and April 2008. One at INSEAD’s exhibition space entitled “This Is What She Told Me – A Kaleidoscope of Women”. An extension of Wawi’s works will also be exhibited at Artesan’s Gallery + Studio “When All Is Said and Done – Memories, Moments and Confabulations”
Whilst the two shows differ in theme, the artworks in both collections map out some cultural vignettes and personal memories of Singapore which she describes as“a melting pot of races, heritage, and ideologies, depicting fragments of utopia and urban-people-of-diaspora searching for identity and authentic relationships. I’m interested in capturing those solitary private moments, pieces of memory--both real and imagined--that hang at the tendrils of time while change is constantly churning beneath our feet.”
Early in January this year, Artesan hosted Wawi Navarroza from the Philippines, as one of the 2007 Ateneo Art Awardees from Ateneo University, a highly reputable institution in Manila, Philippines. The residency grant at Artesan, in co-operation with the university, was part of her award benefits.
