About the Event
Aptly entitled Badged, the exhibit presents portraits but from a completely different angle. Dela Cruz alters the view to highlight his subjects’ tattoos; the marks which serve as a medium for self expression and that which assert their individuality from the rest of the world. There is a sense of pride emanating from the gures as they proudly display their skin art, as badges represent certain accomplishments. But along with the distinction they receive, comes the threat of becoming labeled as well.
A tattoo is a true poetic creation, and is always more than meets the eye. As a tattoo is grounded on living skin, so its essence emotes a poignancy unique to the mortal human condition. (-Carlomar Daoana)
