About the event

Most Indonesian annals tells the tale of the country and its people, with over three hundred ethnic tribes scattered all over the archipelago— from the time they worshipped their environment, traded with peoples of other lands, embraced cultures such as that of the Chinese, Indians, Arabs, Europeans, their traditions, their way of life, etc. The storytelling lives on as Indonesian artists of today continue to create contemporary art that are refl ective of Indonesia’s current social, political and economic structures, reflecting the country’s diverse, yet almost natural approach in visual art

It is observed, as with many Southeast Asian Art today, there is a great tumble of works available in the market today. The raucous voice of young art has become somewhat undecipherable, what with the multitude of styles, genres and media noise to grab attention. Indonesian contemporary art is not spared from this commotion.  It is almost a necessity to self-impose a reprieve, step back, and get a better grasp of the current stream.

For the last eighteen months, the gallery pursued its quest, to be a conduit in the storytelling, by presenting its first collection of Indonesian Art in Singapore – away from the maddening crowd.    It is Artesan’s pride and pleasure to present  Muka: An Uninterrupted Countenance, introducing a collection of a subdued and quiet measure; of genuine forte and passion.
