About the event

Having lived in Singapore for over twenty years, I believe art, in whatever form, needs to reach a wider audience. The local art scene in Singapore during the past ten years has had exceptional growth, but it generally appeals to the more affluent, and well traveled generation.

Since childhood, my exposure to the visual arts, was without doubt, exceptional. My mother was, and still is, a prolific artist and art educator. As a child, every day was an education in art, or a creative project, (a wacky artistic mother's way of keeping ten brothers and sisters busy). With minimal materials, we had to use maximum imagination. As the creative juices would flow, the hands would create, and the results really didn't matter. As children, we had a wonderful time, our creativity appreciated and flourished. As I grew older, my mother would show us slides, practicing her presentations on us for her various art lectures. As a result of my childhood, my passion and appreciation for art evolved.

When my partner and I first conceptualized Artesan, I had this innate desire to encompass and include my personal passion for art. And so we embarked on an ambitious mission to bring art to the general population, as well as reversing that high brow image & perception of visual art in Singapore.

Our mandate was clear, to make art more accessible, approachable, and, viewer friendly. The idea of taking art exhibitions on tour evolved, initially to clubs, schools and community centers bringing art to venues normally frequented by different people from all walks of life. We aim to eliminate the psychological barrier and daunting experience of walking into an art gallery which we know, can be an unnerving experience for the novice majority.

Artesan firmly believes that art education starts with art appreciation. We are proud to have kick started Art on Tour, bringing works by Bernard Vista around various venues.

We thank everyone who have supported us, and continue to do so, in this unique endeavour.
